Abstract

Deliberative Citizenship and Social Management are intrinsically related as they consist of deliberative political action, where the self-determination of individuals opposes the market perspective and serves social democracy, understood as political and decision-making equality. In this sense, this theoretical essay aims to present theoretical connections between participatory methodologies and Social Management based on Habermas' concept of Deliberative Citizenship. When considering participatory methodologies and their theoretical alignment with the field of Social Management, it is suggested that there is an intersection between pragmatism and its conceptual assumptions with the defense of social participation and deliberation. Thus, understanding participatory methodologies, as proposed in this essay, aims to contribute to the epistemological construction of Social Management based on the discussion of participatory methods and techniques. The criteria analyzed from Deliberative Citizenship, aligned with participatory methodologies for Social Management, sought to outline a descriptive and practical panorama of various loci and areas of action, thus enabling the identification of the limits and possibilities for the intersection of the two theoretical perspectives.
