This article aims to investigate the intersections between the narrative resources of the short story and the structural organization of chapters in the telenovela No Rancho Fundo, broadcasted by Rede Globo. Drawing upon a theoretical framework based on authors such as Propp, Pallottini, Lopes, Mittel and Gotlib, the study analyzes how elements characteristic of the short story, such as character, space, time, plot, and climax, are present in the dramatic construction of specific chapters of the telenovela. The research applies the theory of short narrative to the analysis of three episodes of the plot, demonstrating that each chapter can function as an autonomous dramatic unit, similar to the form of the literary short story. The results indicate that the telenovela, although serialized and continuous, presents narrative microstructures with a beginning, middle, and end. In this sense, we reflect on the function of the classic structure of short stories as a contemporary element in the context of the hybridization of television fiction formats.
