Abstract

Food and nutritional security consists of realizing everyone's right to permanent access to quality food, in sanitary conditions, in quantities sufficient for the needs of each individual, without compromising other basic and essential needs. Therefore, discussions on this topic become increasingly important to promote the development of a nation. This article sought to identify consumer perceptions of food and nutritional security during the pandemic period. To this end, exploratory research with a qualitative approach was carried out, using questionnaires. The questions were prepared based on work carried out on consumer perceptions of food and nutritional security. 61 valid responses were obtained, which allowed us to understand the profile of the respondents, the difficulties encountered in consumption and when purchasing food. Specifically, it was found that the population of the state of Mato Grosso do Sul, who participated in the research, did not notice significant changes in the amount of food consumed. Most respondents kept their jobs, some had a salary reduction, but this was not a reason to generate food insecurity. The answers allow us to infer difficulties encountered when purchasing food, such as high prices, lack of food in establishments and little variety. The research contributes to the debate on food and nutritional security and allows us to understand the profile of consumers in the state of Mato Grosso do Sul.
