Abstract

This article investigates the importance of the Procession of Lady of the Conception in Conceição da Feira, Bahia, and the preparations surrounding it. It is understood as a total social fact (Mauss, 1925) because it articulates the various dimensions of social life in that context. Held for centuries, this procession transcends religiosity, presenting itself as a cultural asset that strengthens the sense of community belonging, consolidating itself as a central element in local history and culture. Fieldwork involving systematic observation and dialogue with devotees, as well as research into the local parish's Register of Records, and bibliographical study, were used as methodological resources. The conclusion is that the procession not only preserves but also continually builds the cultural identity of Conceição da Feira through the relationships established among devotees, reaffirming social ties among residents and renewing its relevance for future generations.
