RELIGIOSIDADES MARGINAIS EM UMA CIDADE DE FRONTEIRA

Abstract

The article analyzes practices of religiosity categorized as marginal, in the context of a frontier city, in the middle of the twentieth century, in the north of Paraná. Initially planned to be a "city-garden", a "Terra da Promissão", with an ethic focused on work, governed by moral and religious values of Christians, Londrina soon experimented with an exponential population growth around coffee cultivation. Surgiram, desse modo, marginal contexts, onde se desconvarram non-idealized behaviors, tais como religious practices and services deviating from the hegemonic religious orthodoxy. Through the conceptual use of the indicative method, proposed by the historian Carlo Ginzburg, which emphasizes the investigation from the "vestiges" contained in the sources, this text presents the results of the analysis of newspaper materials archived in the collection, articulated with memorialist writings and academic works. The results of the research revealed an intense circulation of heterodoxy in that period and context, such as: curandeirism, sale of miraculous remedies, benzimentos, magic services for solving problems love, family and work, cartomancy associated with clairvoyants and gypsies, among.
